Casino Currency: US Dollars are used for table play. However, if you arrive with Euro or UK Pounds you will receive a very fair exchange rate. If you buy-in for Pounds you will be paid any returns in Pounds, and any excess winnings in US Dollars or Euros. The exchange shops in Chisinau, and there are many, have very low spreads - usually less that 1% between buying and selling rates.
Our views (15th Sept): I was pleasantly surprised with Chisinau - it is clean, the many parks are nice and well maintained. All in all it was a nice city and well worth a visit.
For wine lovers you are recommended to visit the Cricova Winery which is just nine miles north of Chisinau. I did not have time to visit on this trip, but next time I will make an effort, and report back here!
The bad news: If you don't like Ryanair (they don't fly there yet!) then you won't like 'FlyOne', the Moldovan Airline. They are worse - avoid if possible! LOT Polish Airlines are much nicer, but this adds about 90 mins to the journey with a stop-over in Warsaw. Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and others also fly to Chisinau.
